The Chefs at Honey West Restaurant are excited to share with you one of their favourite recipes for the holidays – Sweet Potato Shepherd’s Pie!


Sweet Potato Shepherd’s Pie

  • 6 sweet potatoes
  • 2lbs ground beef
  • 1 onion
  • 1lb asparagus
  • 3 stalks of celery
  • 3 garlic cloves
  • 1 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • 2 tbsp flour


Boil sweet potatoes and mash them with milk and cream.

In a large saucepan, dice and sweat the onions, celery and garlic. Add the ground beef and cook thoroughly.

Add the tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, flour and cook until it thickens.

In a separate pot, par boil the asparagus and let stand at room temperature. Fill the bottom half of a casserole dish with the beef mixture. Layer the asparagus length wise along the top of the beef mixture. Then spread the sweet potato mash overtop of the asparagus.

Heat the oven to 350 and cook for 25 minutes.
